Short Answer
This estimator maps 14 questions to the official USA Pickleball skill-level chart and returns your likely self-rating band, from 2.5 to 4.5, in about two minutes.
It is a self-assessment for training, not an official rating. Official ratings come from DUPR and tournament play.
Most players guess their level, and most guess wrong in one direction or the other. A self-rating matters because it decides your open-play group, your tournament bracket and the skills you should train next.
Answer each question for the game you actually play today, not your best day. The estimator takes the median of your answers, so one generous answer cannot inflate the result.
No JavaScript? You can still rate yourself: read the level descriptions on the pickleball ratings chart and find the highest band where every description sounds like your game.
How the Bands Work
The bands follow the USA Pickleball skill-level definitions, the same chart used for self-rating at clubs and tournaments. Each level describes serves, returns, dinking, volleys, strategy and consistency.
Your band is the level where the descriptions match your typical game. Reaching the next band usually means fixing your two weakest areas, which is why the result names them.
Self-ratings drift. Once you play rated matches, a results-based rating such as DUPR replaces the estimate with evidence, as our guide to why a DUPR rating can drop after a win explains.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this an official pickleball rating?
No. It is a self-assessment based on the USA Pickleball skill chart. Official ratings come from DUPR and sanctioned tournament play, where results, not opinions, set the number.
How is my estimated band calculated?
Each answer scores a band from 2.5 to 4.0+. Your result is the median of all 14 answers, so it reflects your typical skill rather than your best or worst one.
What is a good pickleball rating?
Most regular club players sit between 3.0 and 3.5. A 4.0 player is a strong, consistent competitor, and 4.5 and above is advanced tournament level.
How do I raise my rating?
Train your two weakest skill areas first; the result above names yours and links the drills for them. Then play rated matches so your official rating can follow.
